Before Deepika in ‘Chhapaak’, 10 actors who went for extreme transformation onscreen

Bollywood was literally shook after Deepika Padukone revealed her first look from the upcoming film ‘Chhapaak’. B-town applauded her for sporting the prosthetic avatar which indeed had an uncanny resemblance to the real life acid attack survivor Laxmi Agarwal 9the role she essays in the film). Director Meghna Gulzar had earlier mentioned that Deepika’s fans will see a disfigured look to keep the film as authentic as possible.

Bollywood films haven’t used prosthetics for the first time. Before Padukone, there have been actors who have undergone extreme transformations to nail the desired look onscreen. From Amitabh Bachchan to Anushka Sharma, here’s a compilation of ten such actors.

Ranbir Kapoor-Sanju

Ranbir Kapoor went through extreme makeovers to don several looks for Sanjay Dutt’s biopic Sanju. The actor who recently won a Filmfare as Best Actor did a challenging role that required weight fluctuation, prosthetics and even hair makeover. Kudos to the Kapoor lad who has set high standards when it comes to actor and character becoming one.

Akshay Kumar- 2.0

Akshay Kumar who had to sport a crow look for this Rajinikanth starrer, came out as a horrifying evil image thanks to all the gear that went into it.

Anushka Sharma- Pari

One of the best horror flicks produced and enacted by Anushka Sharma required most of the looks to be dusted with makeup and prosthetics. Anushka’s makeup was done with precision to look like a damsel in distress. However it was the extreme change that took place towards the end that left her fans stunned.

Priyanka Chopra – Mary Kom

Considering there were no similarities between Priyanka and the real Mary Kom, PC had to use some help to nail the look. Also not to forget the bald look that the actress sported, which required guts becoming one of the few actresses who didn’t mind.

Amitabh Bachchan- Paa

Actors have played opposite their age onscreen, but for someone like Amitabh Bachchan to play a 12-year-old boy was simply mind boggling. In the movie Paa, Big B had to essay the role on a boy suffering from an extremely rare genetic disorder called progeria who grows older before time. This required him to sport a larger head that was bald and no facial hair.

Shah Rukh Khan-Fan

Not one of the best films of Shah Rukh Khan, but the actor who had to essay the role of his own fan, underwent major changes in terms of facial aspects to give a convincing look onscreen.

Hrithik Roshan- Dhoom 2

Hrithik Roshan who plays a multifaceted con in this instalment of the Dhoom franchise had to don several avatars just like a con artist. From an old lady to an aged cleaner, Hrithik left the audience in awe as the villain of this celluloid.

Rishi Kapoor-Kapoor and Sons

Apart from the usual transformation, what we intend to highlight is that the artist responsible for Rishi Kapoor’s over the top old age look won an Oscar this year (for another film).

Kamal Haasan- Chachi 420

One of the classics when it comes to onscreen transformation is Kamal Haasan’s Chachi 420. Over the years, the actor has done similar films that require prosthetics, but this one in particular won hearts for the overall look as an old woman.

Govinda- Hadh Kar Di Aapne

Remember the scene when Govinda’s entire family is featured that also somehow looks like him. It is too much to handle, but back in the day, films could get away with such stints simply to get the audience ROFL.
