Debt-ridden farmer commits suicide

A farmer in Maharashtra ended his life as he allegedly failed to repay his loans. The 35-year old farmer, Vishnu Pundalik Burkul, hanged himself from a tree next to his land, about 25 kilometres from his native Taklimali village in Aurangabad district. Burkul is survived by his four children, wife and mother. His elder brother Ashok Burkul said that his brother, who owned 1.5 acres of land, was under the pressure to repay loans especially as interest amounts kept compounding.
