British-Canadian model and actress Hannah Simone said: "It comes down to personal style, and that's what's sexy and attractive in a man." While we do agree with her in a lot of ways, there is one other thing that makes a man attractive to a woman instantly — creativity.
In the age of Tinder, when one decides whether they want to date someone or not on the basis of a photograph, this comes as a breath of fresh air. According to a study published in Royal Society Open Science journal, being creative makes a man much more attractive to a woman.
For the study, the researchers showed 104 volunteers photos of men and women and asked them to rate the people in the photographs on the basis of their looks. Then a small description was added to each photo to give the volunteers an idea of the person's creative personality.
It was found that average-looking men, who the women thought were creative, got a higher rating compared to men who just looked good.
Meanwhile, men seem to have a different opinion. Good-looking women were rated much higher compared to creative, average-looking women.
"Creative women with less attractive faces seem to be perhaps penalised in some way," AFP quoted Dr Christopher Watkins, a psychologist at Abertay University in Scotland, who carried out the research.
"Women on average are a more selective sex when it comes to choosing romantic partners," he said. So why is it that women look for creativity and humour when it comes to men rather than just good looks? Watkins believes that this happens because of the evolutionary instincts in women. He explained that women tend to seek the best partners keeping in mind healthy offspring and their survival.
The study also found that women preferred creativity, not just in their partners, but it plays a major role even when it comes to choosing friends.
