Cyclone Yaas: Landfall expected at noon today; 11 lakh people evacuated so far

Cyclone Yaas is currently in the Bay of Bengal. The landfall is expected between Odisha and West Bengal around noon today. It is a very severe cyclonic storm and it's about 50 kilometres south southeast of Balasore and it is expected to cross north Odisha, West Bengal coast to the North of Dhamra and south of Balasore in the noon of 26th May.

A very severe cyclonic storm with a wind speed of 130-140 km per hour. In view of the storm, the coastal states of West Bengal, Odisha, and Jharkhand carried out a mass evacuation drive and shifted over 12 lakh people to safe shelters by late evening.

Light to moderate rainfall is expected at most places in Odisha, West Bengal, and Jharkhand. The MeT department has also predicted heavy to extremely heavy rainfall at isolated places in these states.

The Indian Navy said it has stepped up and made all necessary arrangements for the rescue and relief operations. Watch!
