Cyclone Warning in Andhra Pradesh and Odisha, IMD Predicts Heavy Rainfall in Next 24 hours
New Delhi, December 7: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a cyclone warning saying that the depression over the southeast Bay of Bengal is very likely to move north-northwestwards and reach north Andhra Pradesh and south Odisha coasts around the morning of December 9. According to a government release, the system is likely to intensify further into a deep depression during next 24 hours. However, there is a probability of slight weakening of the system when it reaches near north Andhra Pradesh and south Odisha coasts.
On December 7, the depression over southeast Bay of Bengal and neighbourhood moved likely northwards with a speed of about 20 kmph during past 6 hours and lay centred at 0530 hrs IST near Latitude 11.1º N and Longitude 88.0 ºE, about 930 km to the east-southeast of Machillipatnam and 970 km south-southeast of Gopalpur. Cyclone Ockhi gradually weakened on December 6 into a depression and did not cause destruction on the Gujarat coast near Surat as predicted earlier.

The IMD has issued heavy rainfall warning and said that north Andhra Pradesh and Odisha will receive rainfall with heavy falls during December 8-10, 2017. Heavy rainfall will be witnessed over Andaman and Nicobar Islands during next 24 hours. Squally winds speed reaching 40-50 kmph gusting to 60 kmph very likely over and around Andaman and Nicobar Islands during next 24 hours and decrease thereafter while winds speed reaching 40-50 kmph gusting to 60 kmph very likely to prevail along and off Andhra Pradesh and south Odisha coasts from 7th evening to 9th December morning and decrease thereafter.
Sea condition would be rough to very rough along and off Andhra Pradesh and south Odisha coasts from December 7- 9 while in the Andaman Islands during next 36 hours and the Nicobar Islands during next 24 hours. Fishermen along and off north Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and south Odisha coasts are advised not to venture into sea till December 9 while those along and off the Andaman Islands till the forenoon of December 8 and Nicobar Islands till the evening of December 7.
