COVID-19: Punjab sees 138 more deaths, 6,812 fresh cases

Chandigarh, Apr 29 (PTI) Punjab on Thursday reported 138 COVID-19 deaths, which pushed the toll to 8,909, while 6,812 fresh cases took the tally to 3,64,910 in the state, according to a medical bulletin.

The number of active cases rose to 54,954 from 53,426 on Wednesday.

Twenty-one deaths were reported in Bathinda, 18 in Ludhiana, 14 in Amritsar, 12 in Sangrur and 11 in Patiala, among the fatalities reported in the state on Thursday, according to the bulletin.

Ludhiana recorded the highest number of fresh cases at 1,350, followed by 888 in Mohali, 595 in Patiala, 515 in Bathinda, 502 in Jalandhar and 478 in Amritsar, it said.

A total of 5,059 coronavirus patients were discharged after recovering from the infection, taking the number of cured persons to 3,01,047, the bulletin said.

There are 97 critical patients who are on ventilator support while 648 are on oxygen support, it said.

A total of 71,63,789 samples have been collected for testing so far in the state, the bulletin said.

Meanwhile, the Union Territory of Chandigarh reported 801 fresh infections, taking the tally to 41,923.

The death of eight more persons took the toll to 465 in the city, according to a medical bulletin.

The number of active cases is 6,652. A total of 447 patients were discharged after they recovered from the infection, taking the number of cured persons to 34,806, it said.

A total of 4,01,411 samples have been taken for testing so far and of them, 3,58,403 tested negative while reports of 68 samples are awaited, the bulletin said. PTI CHS VSD ANB ANB
