COVID-19 ‘Hotspots’ in 15 UP Districts to Be Sealed Till 15 April

Uttar Pradesh government on Wednesday, 8 April, said all COVID-19 hotspots in 15 districts of the state will be sealed till 15 April to curtail the spread of the deadly coronavirus.

"All coronavirus hotspots in 15 districts will be completely sealed till April 15 morning. Only home delivery will be allowed. These are places where a number of COVID-19 cases have been found," Director, Information Shishir told PTI.

These hotspots will be identified by evening, Additional Chief Secretary, Information, Awanish Awasthi said.

These places reportedly include Noida, Ghaziabad, Meerut, Lucknow, Agra, Shamli and Saharanpur.

UP Chief Secretary RK Tiwari confirmed the same while speaking to ANI.

“Only home delivery and medical teams will be allowed there. It's being done to prevent community spread, as numbers are high,” told the media.

ANI reported quoting District Magistrate Prabhu N Singh that a 76-year-old COVID-19 patient died in Agra. She was a steroid dependent and was on oxygen support.

The total number of cases in India has risen to 5,194, including 4,643 active cases as of Wednesday. The death toll stands at 149, while 401 have recovered.
