(Eds: With additional details) Mumbai, Aug 31 (PTI) Maharashtra's COVID-19 tally rose to 7,92,541 on Monday with the addition of 11,852 new cases, while 184 patients succumbed to the infection, 32 of them in Mumbai, the health department said.
On Sunday, the state had reported 16,408 cases.
With the 184 new deaths reported on Monday, the state's fatality count rose to 24,583, it said.
The department said of the 184 deaths reported on Monday, 143 were from the past 48 hours, while 32 from last week.
Nine of the deaths were from the period before the last week.
In the process of updating figures as per the portal, all these deaths have been reported today, the department said in its media bulletin.
A total of 11,158 patients were also discharged, which took the number of recovered persons to 5,73,559 so far, the department said.
Mumbai city reported the highest single-day cases in the state on Monday with a spike of 1,179, while Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) areas saw a rise of 875 cases.
In the limits of municipal corporations of Nashik, Nagpur, Pimpri-Chinchwad, Kalyan-Dombivli and Navi Mumbai, 651, 645, 592, 359 and 304 cases, respectively, were reported.
Of the total deaths reported on Monday, 32 were from Mumbai, while neighbouring Thane city and Navi Mumbai saw 9 deaths each.
Nagpur city reported 12 fresh deaths.
The Kolhapur district (except Kolhapur Municipal Corporation-governed areas) reported 15 deaths on Monday.
In Thane and Jalgaon districts (except for the areas governed by municipal corporations of Thane and Jalgaon) 10 persons lost their lives due to the disease.
Out of the total 11,852 new cases, the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) accounted for 3,171.
The MMR, which includes Mumbai city and Thane, has till now reported 3,34,218 cases and 12,839 deaths.
The countrys financial capital alone has witnessed 1,45,805 cases and 7,658 deaths till now.
The recovery rate in the state is 72.37 per cent, while the fatality rate is 3.1 per cent, the department said.
Currently, 13,55,330 people are in home quarantine and 35,722 in institutional quarantine.
There are 1,94,056 active cases in the state at present.
A total of 41,38,929 people have been tested across the state so far, it said.
