COVID-19: India Tally at 2.66 L; Over 90,000 Cases in Maharashtra

India on Tuesday, 9 June, reported the highest single-day spike of 9,987 new COVID-19 cases, taking the total number of cases in the country to 2,66,598, including 1,29,917 active cases, 1,29,215 cured/discharged/migrated and 7,466 deaths.

Meanwhile, as many as 1,685 new cases of coronavirus were reported in Tamil Nadu on Tuesday in the highest single-day spike, taking the tally in the state to 34,914. In UP, 388 new COVID-19 cases and 18 fatalities took the state's tally to 11,335 and the death toll to 301.

As many as 91 new cases of COVID-19 were reported in Kerala on Tuesday. The state has recorded over 2,000 cases so far.

161 New COVID-19 Cases in Karnataka, Tally Rises to 5,921

As many as 161 new COVID-19 cases and two deaths have been reported in Karnataka in the last 24 hours, taking the tally in the state to 5,921.

Railways Asks States to Provide Residual Demand for 'Shramik' Trains

Soon after the SC order on migrant workers on Tuesday, the Railways asked states to provide residual demand for 'shramik' special trains by 10 June, reported PTI.

It has also informed the state governments that it will continue to provide such trains within 24 hours after the demand is received from the states, the Rail Ministry said, according to ANI.

"So far, more than 4,347 'shramik' special services have been operated by Indian Railways to transport approximately 60 lakh persons to their destination states," the ministry said.

144 New Cases in Rajasthan

Rajasthan reported 144 new COVID-19 positive cases and five deaths today, taking the total number of positive cases and deaths to 11,020 and 251 respectively.

8 New Cases in Himachal Pradesh

Himachal Pradesh detected 8 new positive cases today. Total COVID-19 positive cases in the state rose to 429 including 197 active cases, 223 recoveries and 5 deaths.
