COVID-19:AP reports 7,943 new cases, 19,845 recoveries, 98 deaths

Amaravati,May 31 (PTI) Indicating a declining trend, Andhra Pradesh in the 24 hours ending 9 am on Monday turned out 7,943 fresh positives from testing of 83,461 samples at the rate of 9.52 per cent, while 19,845 Covid-19 patients got cured and another 98 succumbed, reducing the number of active cases to 1,53,795.

The latest bulletin showed a cumulative of 16,93,085 positives, 15,28,360 recoveries and 10,930 deaths in the state.

After 1.92 crore total tests so far, the overall infection positivity rate came to 8.79 per cent.

The overall recovery rate climbed to 89.5 per cent and the mortality rate remained stable at 0.64 per cent.

AP is now ranked sixth in the country in terms of coronavirus positive cases, fifth in active cases and 20th in mortality.

Only East Godavari (1,877) and Chittoor (1,283) districts reported fresh cases in four digits while the remaining 11 added less than 800 each.

Srikakulam district recorded the lowest number of 231 new cases in a day, the bulletin said.

Chittoor, however, continued to top the daily Covid-19 toll chart with 15 fresh fatalities, followed by West Godavari with 12.

Prakasam district had 10, Anantapuramu nine, East Godavari and Visakhapatnam eight each, Srikakulam seven, Krishna, Kurnool and Vizianagaram six each, Guntur and SPS Nellore four each and Kadapa three more deaths in 24 hours.
