COVID-19: 2884 new cases, 13 fatalities

Thiruvananthapuram, Feb 15 (PTI) Kerala logged 2,884 new cases of COVID-19 and 13 more fatalities on Monday, taking the caseload in the state to 10,07,019 and toll to 3,998.

Health minister K K Shailaja said 5,073 patients recuperated from the disease today, taking the total cured in the state to 9,41,471.

There were 61,281 people under treatment in the state, she said in a release.

According to the release, 2,50,724 persons were under observation.

Two persons who returned from the UK tested positive, taking the total infected UK returnees to 84. Earlier, ten of them were found infected with the new strain of the virus.

The minister said the state had tested 39,463 samples in the last 24 hours and the test positivity rate was 7.31 per cent.

Till now, 1,06,27,542 samples have been tested.

'Among those found infected today, 44 reached the state from outside while 2,651 contracted the disease through their contact. The source of infection of 165 are yet to be traced and 24 health workers are also among the infected,' she said.

Malappuram reported 560 fresh cases today, the highest, followed byErnakulam 393 and Kozhikode 292.
