Covaxin trials for children begin in AIIMS Patna; three kids administered with the doses

India is witnessing a second wave of the COVID pandemic and is simultaneously reeling under the threat of the third wave, which is likely to impact the kids. The DCGI has now given a nod to Bharat Biotech to begin its trials for the Covaxin vaccine for kids. The trials have begun in Patna's AIIMS Hospital. As many as 15 kids were enrolled in the vaccine trials and only three were found eligible for the trials. ICMR has chosen 7 centres and AIIMS Patna is one of them. The three kids who have been administered the doses are said to be absolutely safe. This comes at a time when the second wave of the COVID already has left an impact on the kids and while most of the kids have either mild symptoms or are asymptomatic, the expert panel set up by the Centre is now reviewing the situation closely.
