Court acquits Priya Ramani in MJ Akbar’s defamation case; Activist hails the verdict

The Rousse Avenue District Court is, right now, dictating its verdict in the defamation case filed by former Union Minister MJ Akbar against Priya Ramani regarding the MeToo Movement. According to the latest reports, the court has acquitted Priya Ramani in MJ Akbar’s defamation case.

Making a very significant observation, Judge Ravindra Kumar Pandey said that the "Right of reputation can't be protected at the cost of the right to dignity. The court also observed that a woman cannot be punished for speaking up against sexual abuse. The verdict comes in as a big victory for the MeeToo campaign.
