Bypolls: BJP Wins 19 Seats in Madhya Pradesh, Sweeps Gujarat’s 8

The BJP won the lion’s share of seats in the results of the state Assembly polls to 58 Assembly seats across 11 states which were declared on Tuesday, 10 November, along with the counting for the Bihar Assembly elections.

In Madhya Pradesh, where the Shivraj Singh Chouhan government seems set to hold on to a comfortable majority, the BJP has won 19 seats and is leading in one more. Meanwhile, Congress has won nine seats.

Meanwhile, in Gujarat, the saffron party has swept all eight seats.

Stakes High for BJP, Congress & JD(S) in Karnataka

Stakes are high for the ruling BJP and Opposition Congress and JD(S) in Karnataka as the outcome in the bypolls to two Assembly constituencies that witnessed weeks of spirited campaigning will be known on Tuesday.

Though the results will have no bearing on the stability of the BS Yediyurappa government, it would be seen in many quarters as a reflection on its performance, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic. Votes polled in the 3 November bypolls to Sira in Tumakuru district and Rajarajeshwari Nagar (R R Nagar) would be taken up for counting on Tuesday at 8 am and the results are expected to be in by afternoon.

Madhya Pradesh: A 'Mini Assembly' Bypoll

As many as 28 seats in Madhya Pradesh voted in the by-elections, making this almost like a mini-Assembly election.

At stake are the political fortunes of a number of key leaders in Madhya Pradesh politics: Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, former CMs Kamal Nath and Digvijaya Singh, Union Minister Narendra Singh Tomar and of course the man at the centre of the entire battle – Congress-turned-BJP leader Jyotiraditya Scindia.

After all, these bypolls were necessitated after Scindia along with his loyal MLAs switched over to the BJP camp, bringing down the Kamal Nath-led Congress government in March this year.

Gujarat Bypolls a Major Test for New Gujarat BJP Chief

The by-elections in Gujarat were necessitated by the resignations of Congress MLAs ahead of the Rajya Sabha elections in June. The new Gujarat BJP chief, CR Patil, has set himself an ambitious goal of winning all 182 seats in the Assembly elections of 2022. The by-elections are a major test for Patil, reports The Indian Express.

The counting of votes for bypolls to 58 Assembly seats across 11 states began at 8 am on Tuesday.

Early Trends Show BJP Leading in 2 Seats in Karnataka

Early trends show the BJP leading in both the seats in Karnataka where bypolls were held. The saffron party is also leading in two seats in Gujarat, one seat in Madhya Pradesh and one in UP for which trends have come.

Early Trends Show Advantage BJP in MP, Gujarat & Karnataka

Early trends for the bypolls in Madhya Pradesh show the BJP ahead in nine seats, while the Congress is behind with a lead in four.

The BJP is leading in 18 of the 28 Assembly seats in Madhya Pradesh where bypolls were held, while the Congress is ahead in eight and the BSP in two, latest trends show.

BJP Leading in 6 Seats in Gujarat, 5 in UP

In Gujarat, the BJP is leading in six seats, while Congress is ahead in two. The saffron party has an advantage in Uttar Pradesh too, leading in five seats, while the Samajwadi Party is ahead in two.

BJP Ahead in Both Seats in Jharkhand

The BJP is leading in both the Assembly seats in Jharkhand where bypolls were held.

Meanwhile, in Chhattisgarh, the Congress is leading in the lone seat that went to polls.

BJP Wins One Seat in Manipur

The BJP has won one of the five seats in Manipur where bypolls were held, the Election Commission website showed.

JD(U) Leads in Valmiki Nagar Lok Sabha Seat in Bihar

The Janata Dal (United) is leading in the Valmiki Nagar Lok Sabha seat in Bihar, with its candidate Sunil Kumar leading by a margin of 265 votes.

BJP's Yogeshwar Dutt Trails from Baroda Seat in Haryana

Congress candidate Indu Raj is leading over BJP's Yogeshwar Dutt in the Baroda Assembly constituency in Haryana by a margin of 2,843 votes.

'We're Getting Majority': MP BJP Leader Narottam Mishra

As the BJP led in 18 of the 28 seats in Madhya Pradesh, the party’s leader and state minister Narottam Mishra said, “BJP has nothing to lose, those who are losing, ask them. We'll only gain. I heard Digvijaya Singh's statement. If he's questioning EVM, it means BJP is winning. We're getting majority and the two elderlies (Digvijaya Singh and Kamal Nath) are going to Delhi.”

BJD Ahead in Both Seats in Odisha

In Odisha, the Biju Janata Dal is ahead in both the seats where bypolls were held – Balasore and Tirtol. The BJP is the trailing party in both the constituencies.

Three Ministers Trail in Madhya Pradesh Bypolls

Three ministers in the Madhya Pradesh government are trailing behind the Congress candidates.

These include BJP leaders Adal Singh Kansana, Girraj Dandotiya and OPS Bhadoria in Sumaoli, Dimani and Mehgaon constituencies, respectively.

BJP leader M Raghunandan Rao is leading over TRS candidate Solipeta Sujatha by 2,485 votes from the Dubbak Assembly seat in Telangana, where bypolls were held.
