Coronavirus: Montreal Canadiens' Petry provides hospital workers with free meals

Montreal Canadiens defenseman Jeff Petry and his wife, Julie, are donating free meals to Montreal-area hospital workers.

The Petrys have opened up $2,500 tabs at two Montreal restaurants, and medical professionals can receive a free meal at either by showing their hospital IDs.

Currently in Michigan while the season is on pause because of the coronavirus pandemic, Julie said she and her husband got the idea after Detroit Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford and his wife did something similar.

The Petrys were also inspired to make such a donation after learning that one of the Canadiens’ team physicians, Dr. Dan Deckelbaum, is a member of the COVID-19 leadership response team at the Montreal General Hospital.

A 10-year NHL veteran, Jeff Petry was in the midst of one of his best seasons prior to the games being suspended, ranking third on the Canadiens with 29 assists and leading all Montreal defensemen with 40 points.
