Controversy erupts over 2 PoK candidates in DDC polls; State poll commissioner mulls legalities

After the first-ever DDC (District Development Council) polls were conducted in Jammu and Kashmir, the state election commission stopped vote counting on two seats- Bandipora, Kupwara as the 2 female candidates who stood for the elections were from Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (PoK).

J&K Election Commissioner in a press briefing said, 'India is a democracy and has a big tradition of how to deal with people coming from abroad. These particular people from PoK is a different set of people.' He also mentioned that the state election commission has taken a very conceded decision by giving the persons a chance to explain their status of citizenship.
