Congress Reopens PM’s College Degrees Debate, Calls Him Secretive

A case was also filed against Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal for saying that the PM forged his degrees.

After an Assam court issued a bailable warrant against Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal for his tweets on Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s educational qualifications, the Congress on Tuesday asked the PM why he was so “secretive” about his educational background.

Congress leader Digvijaya Singh took to Twitter to question the PM.

He took several digs at the PM, asking if it was a crime to know about his background.

Kejirwal has entered troubled territory last year when he accused Modi of having furnished false degrees of Gujarat University.

A criminal defamation case was filed by Assam BJP leader Surya Rongphar, who called the comment “baseless and misleading”.

Last year, the Delhi University’s registrar said that the Prime Minister’s degree was authentic and he “cleared the examination in 1978 and was awarded the degree in 1979.”

Copies of the Prime Minister’s Bachelor's and Master's degrees from Delhi University and Gujarat University, respectively were released by the Centre last year.

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) had alleged that the government produced “forged” documents, which contained “glaring discrepancies”, including the name and year of issue.
