Thiruvananthapuram, Apr 4 (PTI)Congress and BJP in Kerala today asked the government to take stern action against those responsible for ‘threatening and humiliating’ the Kerala University Students Service Director Dr T Vijayalekshmi.
KPCC President (In-charge) M M Hassan said that it was very shocking that a university teacher was insulted.
He also sought the intervention of Governor Justice (Retd) P Sathasivam on the matter.
He said the complaint of the teacher should be treated very seriously.
Hassan said there was criminal negligence by not taking any action on the part of Home department under Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan.
The Governor should intervene to ensure protection to the teacher and alleged that activities of Students Federation of India (SFI), students wing of pro-CPI(M) which was behind the incident, would destroy the education system in the state.
Congress leader and opposition leader in the Kerala assembly Ramesh Chennithala also demanded arrest of those responsible for humiliating the teacher recently.
BJP State President Kummanom Rajasekharan wanted government to arrest the DYFI leader involved in the incident.
Police have not registered case even after the teacher had lodged complaint with the DGP and Chief Minister, Rajasekharan said.
DFYI leader and Kerala University Syndicate member A A Rahim allegedly threatened the teacher for not sanctioning funds for the University youth festival, BJP leader pointed out.
Women safety, under the LDF government that came to power with the slogan of ‘women safety’, has become a distant dream, he said.
