Coal theft case: CBI summons Trinamool Congress MP Abhishek Banerjee's brother-in-law

Officials said on Friday that the CBI summoned TMC MP Abhishek Banerjee's brother-in-law on March 15 in connection with an illegal coal-mining case.

Banerjee's sister-in-law Menaka Gambhir's husband, Ankush Arora, and his father, Pawan Arora, have been summoned to appear before the case's investigating officer on March 15, according to reports. In a case involving illegal coal mining and pilferage from the Eastern Coalfields Limited mines, the central probe agency recently questioned Banerjee's wife Rujira and sister-in-law Menaka Gambhir. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is leading a ferocious campaign in West Bengal to unseat the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC), which won consecutive elections in 2011 and 2016 under Mamata Banerjee's leadership.
