Church-Run School Attacked in Mumbai Over Conversion Allegation

A mutilated body of an eight-year-old girl was found in a village in Kasganj district of Uttar Pradesh. The victim had been reported missing while playing near her house since July 1. The body was found from the house of an old lady of the same village.

Mumbai, April 25: A Church-run school in Virar was attacked by an outfit that accused the management of trying to convert students. The attack on Christ Primary School took place on Tuesday after which the House of Prayer’s Church that runs the institute filed an application. While the police have acknowledged the application, no case was registered in connection with the attack.

According to reports, members of the International Hindu Parishad targetted the school alleging that students were pressurised to convert to Christianity. The outfit put up a banner outside the school asking people not to send their children to the school alleging forced conversions. The school has divisions from Class I to V and is affiliated to the Maharashtra state board. It was established in 2014.

According to the management, the school is run under "constant fear of attack". Speaking to Times of India, administrator Nilesh Thakur said a mob attacked the institution on Tuesday when they were initiating the process of seeking new admission for the next academic year. The school has more than 250 students from economically backward sections. Thakur also added that parents have given it in writing that no conversions have been taking place in the school.

The administrator said the school is about to start secondary section and alleged that parents were threatened and forced to withdraw their kids from the school. The International Hindu Parishad had attacked the House of Prayer’s Church on February 24. Following the previous attack, the church discontinued its weekly two-hour Sunday prayer.
