Chinese media portrays entire Jammu and Kashmir as part of India
A Chinese news channel has portrayed Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) as part of the original map of Jammu and Kashmir. The map was used by a Chinese state-run television channel while showing the attack on China's consulate in Pakistan's Karachi last Friday (November 23).
China's international news channel CGTN (China Global Television Network) showed the entire state of Jammu and Kashmir as part of India, with the map demarcating Pakistan from India, and the area marked as Pakistan in the map not including PoK.
This is a significant deviation from China's longstanding depiction of Jammu and Kashmir's map, which despite protests from India, has shown PoK as part of Pakistan.
Although, it is still unclear whether this move was intended by the Chinese government, it points towards a possible change of stance by Beijing.
The shift in portrayal of the map may invite a reaction from the Pakistan government. This could further have implications on the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). India has protested against the project of CPEC, saying that the corridor violates India's sovereignty.
