China to build submarines for Pakistan Navy; Engine hurdle from Germany emerges

China is all set to make eight submarines for Pakistan Navy. Four submarines will be built in China, while the other four will be built in Pakistan itself. The trials for the first submarine were initially slotted for March this year and the second, for July this year. However, it will be commissioned in April and October next year. For the engines, China had approached a German firm but the export license does not appear to be forthcoming. This could be a cause of trouble in the deal between China and Pakistan.
