Chicken Biryani Recipe: Simple Recipe to Make Mouth-Watering Chicken Biryani

Who doesn’t like a good chicken biryani? Today we are sharing a simple recipe to make delicious biryani at home.

The fragrant long grains and succulent pieces of chicken with sweet, fried onions, a handful of dried fruits, rich taste of ghee and the aroma of spices, chicken biryani is something we all love. India has several types of biryani including the very famous Hyderabadi biryani, Lucknowi biryani, Kolkata biryani, Mughlai biryani and Malabar biryani. It is believed that biryani originated in Persia and was brought to India by Mughals. Other believe that a king in South India asked his cook to prepare a dish by cooking rice and cattle meat together to feed his army. Biryani evolved to represent the local flavors. It is considered a difficult dish to cook but don’t worry, we have brought a simple recipe to cook biryani at home. Here’s how you can make chicken biryani at home.


700 grams of chicken

150 grams of curd

1 tablespoon of lime juice

Salt to taste

1 teaspoon of red chili powder

1 teaspoon of turmeric powder

1 teaspoon of garam masala

2 tablespoons of ginger garlic paste

Mint leaves (chopped)

4 to 5Green chilies chopped)

Coriander leaves (chopped)

1 tablespoon of oil

1 cup of fried onion

Water for boiling rice

10 grams of whole spices

500 grams of basmati rice

1 cup of melted ghee

1 cup of saffron infused milk


Take the chicken in a large bowl and add the curd into it. Then add the lime juice and salt. Add one teaspoon of red chili powder, one teaspoon of turmeric powder, one teaspoon of garam masala, two tablespoons of ginger garlic paste, green chilies, coriander leaves, mint leaves, oil and a handful of fried onion. Mix well and leave it for about an hour.

For rice, boil water with 10 grams of whole spices. Once the water starts boiling add the rice and cook it until it is half cooked. Keep the rice aside.

Now, place a heavy bottom pan on a low flame and place the marinated chicken in the pan. Add the half-cooked rice on top of the chicken. Spread the rice to make an even layer.

Pour the ghee over the rice, sprinkle some fried onion, some mint leaves and a cup of saffron infused milk.

Close the pan using an aluminum foil and then place the lid.

Let it cook on low flame for about 30 minutes. After 30 minutes, your biryani is ready to be served.
