Raipur, May 30 (PTI) The windshield of a helicopter carrying Chhattisgarh Health Minister TS Singh Deo suffered cracks while landing at a village in Surajpur district on Sunday, officials said, adding an inquiry has been ordered.

The minister and others are reported to be safe.

The incident occurred around 3:40 pm when the minister was on his way to visit Dharsedi village under Odgi police station area in Surajpur where three people were killed when an under-construction well collapsed on them, they said.

Apart from the minister, two staff, two pilots and an engineer were on board the helicopter.

They took off from Ambikapur at around 3:25 pm, officials said.

'Just before landing near Bhaiyathan village, two others who were with me noticed a thin crack on the windshield but we thought pilots must be looking into it,' Singh Deo told PTI.

The minister said he left for Dharsedi by road after landing.

'Later, I came to know that the chopper would not be able to take off because the windshield had been damaged.

According to pilots, the cause of the cracks was not immediately known,' he said.

Meanwhile, a statement issued by the state government said an inquiry has been ordered to probe the damage caused to the glass (windshield) of the helicopter at the time of landing.

Chief Pilot of the chopper and Additional Director of state's civil aviation department will submit a report after investigation, it said.

Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel spoke to Singh Deo over the phone, it added. PTI TKP NSK NSK
