Sukma(Chhattisgarh), April 26: A helicopter, on Wednesday evening, carrying CoBRA commandos crash landed at Chintagufa in Sukma district. As per news agency ANI, 5 occupants have received minor injuries. The crash landing took place near a CRPF camp. The reason for crash landing is not yet known, as per the officials it might be a technical snag.
Officials said two officers and a commando of the elite jungle warfare unit of the CoBRA were among five people who received injuries after the crash took place around 5:30 PM near the Chintagupha camp of the paramilitary force, deep in the Naxal hotbed of south Bastar. They said the pilot and the engineer of the Bell-206 helicopter, hired on lease by the CRPF for anti-Naxal operations in the state, were also injured.
“All the three officials of the Commando Battalion for Resolute Action, which is CoBRA, and the two crew members are safe now,” a senior officer said.
Sukma district has been in news this week as on Monday 25 CRPF jawans were martyred in Chattisgarh’s Sukma district. About 300 Naxals had ambushed a 99-member team of soldiers who were patrolling the area. The Naxals were heavily armed with automatic rifles and rocket launchers. The outnumbered jawans battled the Maoists for more than two hours inflicting heavy casualties on the red terrorists.
Also, today morning, around 10 Maoists were killed and five were injured in Chhattisgarh’s Sukma by CRPF.
Commando Battalions for Resolute Action, (CoBRA) are a specialized force which has been raised for jungle combat. Also known as a ‘Jungle Warriors’, these personnel are selected from amongst CRPF personnel. Their hallmarks are Courage, Zeal and patriotism. They undergo rigorous Commando & Jungle warfare training.
