Chennai: Sathyabama Deemed University Declares Holidays Till January 3 After Ruckus Following Student’s Suicide
Chennai, Nov 23: The students of the Sathyabama Deemed University in Chennai set things inside the campus on fire after a girl student, who was allegedly caught cheating in an exam, allegedly committed suicide in her hostel room. The agitated students reportedly claim that the girl was ashamed by the University authorities which prompted her take such a grave step.
Duvvuru Raga Monica Reddy, the first year engineering student hailing from Hyderabad, was writing her second semester engineering chemistry paper when she was caught being involved in cheating. Soon after, she was sent out of the exam hall.
In the videos and the images shared widely on the social media, students of the university can be seen setting up the things on fire in the campus. As per NDTV report, the fire tenders have claimed that the situation is under control now however, they said that the students did not allow them inside the campus.
She was found hanging from the ceiling of the room by her room mates. Her body has been sent to the Royapettah government hospital for autopsy.
A report in The New Indian Express says that after she went back to her hostel, she messaged her twin brother who studies in the same department of the University. In the message, that was in Telugu, she apologised for her mistake.

The parents of the victim are on their way from Hyderabad. Reports say, a case has been registered under section CrPc 174 ( (unnatural death) and further investigations are on.
