Chennai, February 24: A major fire broke out at Porur ground in Chennai on Sunday where more than 250 cars were parked. The incident took place at around 2:00 pm. The private car parking facility is opposite Ramachandra Hospital. At least 214 cars parked there were gutted in the blaze. Eight fire tenders rushed to the spot. According to reports, the incident took place after dry grass caught fire. A police investigation is underway.
No casualty has been reported till now. Operations are underway to douse the fire. More details are still awaited. The location where the fire broke out is 2-3 kms from Chennai airport. Meanwhile, on Saturday, as many as 300 vehicles were gutted after a massive fire broke out at the parking lot of Bengaluru's Yelahanka Air Force Station, where the Aero India 2019 was taking place. Reports claimed that a cigarette butt was thrown on the parking lot which led to the fire on Saturday afternoon. The burnt vehicles were parked near gate 5. The air show had to be temporarily halted after the incident.
