Two Chennai medical students – Gautam Sudarshan and Ashish Paul – were on Wednesday granted bail by a court in Sriperumbudur, after having been arrested following nationwide outrage over the merciless torturing of a helpless dog.
A few days ago a gut-wrenching video surfaced online showing Gautam grinning away while throwing a terrified dog off the terrace of a three-storey building in Chennai. His ‘heroic deed’ was shot on camera by his friend, Ashish Paul.
Both are final year medical students of Madha Medical College, Kundrathur, Chennai.

The entire nation went into a tizzy as the video went viral and people demanded that the man in the video be arrested for his inhuman, barbaric act. It took the police a few days to first identify the culprits and then arrest them. The two culprits were absconding when the cops first went to arrest them.
The two are from Tirunelvelli and Kanyakumari and they finally surrendered after the police contacted their families.
Miraculously, however, the dog was found alive by some rescuers, who said that despite the fact that its legs and spine had been fractured in the fall from the 3-storey building, it was ‘wagging its tail’ to see them.
The animal is being treated at the Madras Veterinary College, but the doctors say that the extent of her injuries are so severed that she will be crippled for life. She will require at least 2 months to recover.
One of the rescuer, Shravan Krishnan, who is an animal rights activist and founder of Hotel for Dogs, had posted the entire episode on his Facebook page.
Shravan also wrote that they have named the hapless dog ‘Bhadra’, according to a Quint report.

The Blue Cross of India too had launched a campaign on Facebook to nab the perpetrators.
It had posted on its FB page: ‘The entire nation is shocked after watching the video of a poor little dog being thrown to death from the terrace of a building. Our friends Antony, Jennifer, and Shravan have been very swift in taking action against them and lodged a complaint with Chennai city police commissioner, with video evidences. The police commissioner had ordered for a quick action on the complaint. With the help of the cyber crime police the accused have been identified as Gautam Sudarshan and Asish Paul, both final year medical students of Madha Medical College, Kundrathur, Chennai.’
‘With the help of Kundrathur police the scene of crime has been identified but the two culprits have been on the run. Anybody who has information on them please come forward to help the police with nabbing them and bringing them to justice,’ the post said.
Hours after the dog who they flung from a Chennai roof was found, the two medical students who tortured her - and filmed her hurtling several storeys to the ground - were arrested and then released on bail in Tamil Nadu.

Indians are enraged over the incident and have demanded strict punishment for the two culprits. Even an online petition to have them debarred from the noble profession has been started.
