Edouard Mendy – 6: Beat away a Fernandes free-kick fairly early on. Distribution was initially tidy despite decent United pressing, though that changed somewhat as the game progressed. Spilled a James cross under little pressure towards the end of the match.
Andreas Christensen – 7: Little to criticise in the case of the centre-back.
Antonio Rudiger – 7: Surprisingly made some dangerous attacking runs as well as putting in a solid defensive shift.
Cesar Azpilicueta – 7: Captain produced a mature performance as he tends to.
Callum Hudson-Odoi – 6: Was arguably fortunate not to see a penalty given against him for a handball in the first half but responded well with some encouraging contributions. Went off injured at half-time.
Ben Chilwell – 6: Got up and down the wing in typical fashion but was fairly well marshalled by Wan-Bissaka.
Mateo Kovacic – 6: Has been a star performer since Tuchel’s arrival but could not quite reach that level here.
N’Golo Kante – 6: Buzzed around the middle of the pitch without ever taking control of the game for the hosts.
Mason Mount – 7: As hard-working as ever in midfield. Should have scored in the second half after receiving the ball in a promising position.
Hakim Ziyech – 6: Was kept out by a fine reflex save from De Gea in just his second start under Tuchel – his first since the German’s first game in charge.
Olivier Giroud – 6: Wasted a chance after De Gea kicked the ball straight to him, and barely missed a diving header from a Hudson-Odoi cross. Was replaced shortly after the hour mark.
Substitutes: R James – 7; Pulisic – 6; Werner – 6.
David de Gea – 6: Kicked the ball straight to Giroud at one point and was lucky that the striker rushed his effort. Made a crucial save to deny Ziyech in the second half, though.
Aaron Wan-Bissaka – 6: Did a sufficient job in nullifying Chilwell’s threat on United’s right for the most part.
Victor Lindelof – 7: Tidy enough showing from the centre-back, who distracted Werner well late on to keep things level.
Harry Maguire – 7: A decent performance from the captain. Made a vital block to stop Mount just after the hour mark.
Luke Shaw – 7: Exhibited great energy on the flank and made a terrific block to keep out James early in the second half.
Scott McTominay – 6: Wasn’t at his best for the visitors but didn’t make any clear mistakes either.
Bruno Fernandes – 6: Looked to be the difference-maker as usual, but couldn’t quite exert his normal influence.
Fred – 6: Was booked early in the second half. Worked hard and almost broke the deadlock with a curling effort from distance.
Daniel James – 7: Showed defensive discipline alongside his attacking intent.
Marcus Rashford – 6: Produced little moments of invention but failed to be clinical.
Mason Greenwood – 6: Forced Hudson-Odoi into a handball that could have resulted in a penalty for United. That marked perhaps his greatest contribution of the afternoon, bar a decent shot from range later on.
Substitutes: Martial – 6.
