CBI files chargesheet In Pollachi sexual assault case

During investigations, it was found the case was that of an organised crime where the suspects made videos of survivors and then blackmailed them.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has filed its first chargesheet in the Pollachi sexual assault case against five suspects.

The five are Sabrirajanth aka Risvanth, K Thirunavukkarasu, M Sathish, T Vasanth Kumar and R Manni aka Mani Vanan. All the accused are close friends and their full identities were still being determined.

During investigations, it was found the case was that of an organised crime. Suspects made videos of survivors and then blackmailed them. One of the survivors managed to file a complaint.

All five have been booked for sexual assault and rape and the chargesheet was filed in Coimbatore.

The CBI has registered two cases on the basis of notifications from the Tamil Nadu government and the Centre. The chargesheet has been filed in less than a month's time.

Thirunavakkarasu, M Sathish, Sabrirajanth and Vasanth Kumar have been accused of sexually harassing dozens of women -- over 50 of them -- for over two years across Tamil Nadu.

Among them were teachers and students from schools and colleges.

Officials described a chilling pattern. The men, they said, found victims on Facebook and forced them to meet in person after befriending them. They then harassed them in moving vehicles, hotels or farmhouses.

Most of the victims refused to make formal complaints, the police officials said. The police say they had retrieved videos from the gang that show sexual harassment or assault.
