Now Make Voice Calls Over the Internet on Android With Truecaller

Voice call is the latest feature entry on Truecaller app, which is coming to Android users with version 10.35.6 in the next few days. The company on 18 June announced the feature which puts it against existing players like WhatsApp, Skype and Google Duo in the Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) segment.

Truecaller was launched as a caller ID platform for mobile users, allowing users to track the people calling or messaging them. Voice is the fourth feature that Truecaller caters to on Android, with others being caller ID, messaging and payments as well.

The in-app voice over Internet protocol (VoIP)-based feature would let users make free, high quality, low latency and quick to connect audio calls through Wi-Fi or mobile data connectivity, as highlighted by the company in its statement.

With over 60 percent of its users from India, it makes sense for Truecaller to offer this feature for Android users to start with, and gradually in the coming months, the company will make it available for iOS users as well.

Head over to the app, select a contact and you can click on the ‘Voice’ option to get the call connected.

It’s fairly clear that Truecaller is now looking to become a one-stop shop for users, allowing them to track unknown callers, chat with friends and even make payments to them without leaving the app.

Earlier this year, the app crossed 100 million daily users mark in India which encouraged the company to comply with the country’s payment regulations, and claiming to be keeping the data of users in India itself.

VoIP apps for voice calling are heavily used these days, even when the calling rates have been slashed to zero, as network coverage grapples under the pressure of heavy density of users.
