Hyderabad, Apr 5 (PTI): A Chartered Accountant was arrested here for allegedly preparing and circulating a fake government order (GO) in the social media, claiming imposition of lockdown in Telangana to prevent the spread of COVID-19, police said on Monday.

The accused prepared and circulated the fake GO dated April 1, 2021 in the name of Telangana Chief Secretary and circulated the same in WhatsApp groups, city Commissioner of Police Anjani Kumar told reporters.

The Chief Secretary Somesh Kumar had earlier denied issuance of any GO.

According to the police, the accused four days ago downloaded the previous lockdown GO of the Telangana government issued under COVID-19, The Epidemic Diseases Act, in his laptop.

Later, he forged the GO by changing the dates of lockdown to 2021 and circulated the GO in his WhatsApp group, the police said.

Then, the members in the WhatsApp group circulated the GO to some of their known and unknown persons through several WhatsApp groups creating panic among the public, they said.

The fake GO had gone viral.

Subsequently, the police registered a case and during the course of investigation arrested the CA, and seized one laptop and a phone from his possession. PTI VVK NVG NVG
