A bride-to-be who refused to tie the knot in a size 24 wedding dress shed a whopping eight stone on the keto diet to have her dream day.
When Breeana North’s partner got down on one knee, she knew she didn’t want walk down the aisle weighing 122kg (19st 2lbs).
The 24-year-old from the Hunter Valley, New South Wales, Australia, kept a picture of her dream wedding dress in the back of her mind as motivation to lose weight.
And after switching to a strict ketogenic diet, which focuses on high fat, high protein foods while cutting carbs, the inspirational bride lost a staggering eight stone (51kg) and dropped seven dress sizes for her big day in October 2017.
Breeana was joined by her husband, Tye North who also went on the keto diet in the lead up to the wedding, dropping an incredible 15st 2lbs (101kg) and going from 39st 5lbs (250kg) down to 23st 6lb (149kg).
Like his bride, Tye’s motivation for losing weight was his wedding outfit as the 29-year-old was determined to wear tux that wasn’t specially made for his size.
“When Tye proposed to me, I was over the moon but a wave of sadness washed over me at the same time. I knew I wanted to marry him, but not the way we were,” Breanna told Caters News.
The couple admitted their eating habits had lead to them both piling on the pounds.
“We would binge on mountains of fried food, sweet treats and drink four litres a soft drink daily between us without issue.
“I told Tye that I’d only marry him if we made a solid effort to get healthy, and he agreed.”
Though Breanna had heard of the keto diet, she was sceptical about it.
“I thought it was just another fad diet. But I saw people having amazing results and decided to give it a go.”
A decision she’s never regretted.
“Just a few days after going keto, I had so much more energy. I was sleeping better, my skin cleared up and I was just happier. I knew at that point I would never look back.
The couple also overhauled their fitness regime, unlisted the help of a personal trainer and going to the gym five days a week.
“The weight just began melting off,” she says.
By the time their wedding arrived, Breanna and Tye had lost a whopping 23 stone 13lbs (152kg) between them.
“I felt like a princess on my wedding day. I never imagined I’d ever fit into a size six gown. I even had to get it taken in a little as it was slightly too big.
“And to see Tye healthier too after the losing the weight was such a good feeling.
“He still has a long journey ahead of him, but he is very determined. It’s so inspiring.”
Breeana had been overweight her entire life and was bullied throughout school due to her size, which became so severe that she dropped out.
The customer service assistant claims life after school only got worse as she isolated herself at home and comfort ate around the clock.
The turning point came after Tye proposed in October 2013.
Since losing the weight, Breeana said she feels so liberated when out shopping and no longer needs to buy baggy clothes to hide her frame.
“I’d always just wear tracksuits or big baggy jumpers with leggings. I thought it hid my fat, but it just made me look worse,” she said.
“It feels incredible to be able to go into any store and find something in my size. I have so much more confidence.”
And the newlywed credits her husband for his support.
“Doing this with the love of my life has been so rewarding,” she said. “We really motivate and inspire each other.
“It was the best thing we could have done for our relationship.
“I never could have done this without him and now we can look forward to a healthy and happy future.”
