Boyfriend watches as 18-year-old streams suicide on Facebook Live, arrested

A Class 12 student, 18-year-old Mousumi Mistry hanged herself from a ceiling fan in her home in Bengal's Sonarpur while her phone was streaming it on Facebook Live.

Police today arrested an 18-year-old boy in West Bengal for having been audience to his girlfriend's suicide as she streamed it online on Facebook on Saturday.

A Class 12 student, 18-year-old Mousumi Mistry hanged herself from a ceiling fan in her home in Sonarpur while her phone was streaming it on Facebook Live.

Police believe the boy, operating from a fake Facebook account named as 'Aryan', was watching the Live and only exited it when she tied her dupatta around her neck. The boy is said to have even commented on her Live.

After investigation, police identified the boy as Suman Das and arrested him from his home in Khurigachi.

Reports say Suman's fake Facebook profile, which he allegedly used to talk to other girls under the fake name, had been an apple of discord between him and Mousumi.

On Saturday, as her family complained, Mousumi had warned Suman via a text about ending her life if he did "anything wrong".

Her last message to him, her stepfather said, was "Aamake shesh dekha dekhe nao" (Take a last look of me).

As further investigations continue, Suman Das, who is also a Class 12 student, is set to be presented in Baruipur court next week.
