The Hrithik Roshan and Tiger Shroff starrer WAR is unstoppable as it remained super strong, Chiranjeevi’s pre-independence drama Sye Raa Narasimha Reddy is going nowhere while Joker minted good amount of money at the box office on first Monday.
WAR, broke the record on Gandhi Jayanti holiday when it took a thunderous opening from 4200 screens across India and collected Rs 53.35 crore on its first day surpassing the previous record held by the Aamir Khan, Amitabh Bachchan and Katrina Kaif starrer Thugs Of Hindostan, which holds the record for the highest opening day collection ever in Bollywood with Rs 52.25 crore (all version). The opening day collections of WAR became the highest opening day collection of 2019 beating the Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif starrer Bharat, which collected Rs 41.80 crore on its first day. Due to the normal working day, WAR dropped on the second day but still minted a staggering amount of Rs 24.35 crore. The hardcore action film remained stable on Friday and collected Rs 22.45 crore while it shot up on Saturday and Sunday with a mind-blowing figure of Rs 27.60 crore and Rs 37.40 in all versions, bringing the 5 days extended weekend to an eye-popping Rs 166.25 crore.
The first Monday was an acid test for WAR as it was first working day after a 5 days extended weekend and as per early trade estimates, WAR showed strong legs at the ticket window. The action drama starring Hrithik Roshan, Tiger Shroff and Vaani Kapoor dropped by 5-10% as compared to Friday and collected somewhere between Rs 21-22 crore, becoming the one of the highest Monday collections of all time and definitely the highest Monday of 2019, bringing the 6 days total to Rs 187-189 crore. WAR is already the 5th highest grossing film of 2019 beating Dream Girl (Rs 133 crore), Gully Boy (Rs 138 crore), Super 30 (Rs 147.35 crore), Chhichhore (Rs 148 crore), Saaho (Rs 151 crore), Total Dhamaal (Rs 155 crore) and Kesari (Rs (155.60 crore). Tuesday being a national holiday for Dusshera, WAR will score the big number at the box office.
The budget of WAR is Rs 200 Crore (Production Cost: 180 Crore, Prints & Advertising Cost: 20 Crore) and will be crossed by today. The action film is directed by Siddarth Anand and is produced by Aditya Chopra under the banner of Yash Raj Films.
Sye Raa Narasimha Reddy
Sye Raa Narasimha Reddy dominated the Southern region but Chiranjeevi and Amitabh Bachchan starrer failed to click in the Hindi version. Met with average reviews, Sye Raa Narasimha Reddy collected a poor Rs 7.50 crore on its first weekend from 1200 screens in North India.
As per early analysis, Sye Raa Narasimha Reddy crashed on first Monday with Rs 75 lakhs, bringing the 6 days collections to Rs 8.25 crore.
Welcomed with phenomenal reviews at the Venice film festival, Joaquin Phoenix starrer Joker, a spin-off character of the super hero film, Batman, impressed the audience at the city multiplexes. As per trade estimates, Joker collected a very good Rs 5.75 crore on its first day and should pick up as the days progresses. This is a very good number considering Joker not being an action-oriented super hero film but a dark psychological thriller.
Due to the normal working day, Joker dropped on the second day, minting Rs 3.75 crore but picked up again on third day with Rs 4.25 crore. The collections grew further on Saturday with Rs 5.25 crore and Rs 5.50 crore on Sunday. As per trade estimate, Joker held very well on first Monday with Rs 3 crore, bringing the overall total to Rs 27-28 crore in three days.
