Black Fungus alarm in India: Centre assures to ramp up production of Amphotericin B

India is now facing a steep surge in the cases of Black Fungus or Mucormycosis and Maharashtra are one of the worst-hit states. Several states have declared it a notifiable disease. As many as 125 people have succumbed to the new infection to date. The states are now reaching out to the Centre after raising an SOS alarm, there seems to be an acute shortage of the drugs that are used to treat the Black fungus infections, including the Amphotericin B. The Centre on the other hand has come out and assured that they will be ramping up the production of drugs for Black Fungus and there will be the availability of more than 5.7L vials by the end of June.
