BJP's Arjun Singh disrupts train services over TMC workers molesting woman supporter
Hundreds of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) supporters headed by newly joined party leader Arjun Singh on Monday (March 25) protested demanding arrest of Trinamool Congress members allegedly molesting a woman party worker.
Train services between Kankinara and Jagaddal were affected during peak hours after the protesters squatted on the tracks, halting train movement. There was disruption in the Sealdah route for more than an hour.
Arjun Singh said that they protested against the inaction of Jagaddal Police in the alleged molestation case.
"Yesterday a BJP woman worker was manhandled and molested by some TMC members. We compiled 47 cases against them and named Sanjay Singh, Promod Singh. But police IC Shamsher Ali Khan of Jaddal police station is taking no action. People are very angry with the police and came down on the rail," he said.
TMC's MP Dinesh Trivedi hit back at the protesters, saying, "No gundagiri (hooliganism) will take place in Barrackpore."
"Barrackpore is a good place. Hooligans should be thrown out of here. There is no place of hooliganism. The law will take its course."
Ironically, till last month Arjun Singh was the blue eyed boy of the TMC. But now he has switched allegiance to the BJP.
BJP's Arjun Singh will be contesting against Dinesh Trivedi for the Barrackpore Lok Sabha constituency. Communist Party of India (Marxist) has fielded Gargi Chatterjee for the seat.
