Eyes rolled in the Maharashtra Vidhan Bhawan premises as BJP MLA from Mira-Bhayander Narendra Mehta drove in a Lamborghini luxury car today.
The orange color Lamborghini caught the fancy of many present in and around the Vidhan Bhawan, where the budget session of the Maharashtra Assembly is on.
The Lamborghini has been in the news last year when the MLA's the wife met with an accident as she lost control over the car and rammed it into an auto rickshaw within seconds of taking it out for the first time.
Narendra Mehta had reportedly gifted the Rs 5.5-crore car to his wife on her birthday in August last year.
BJP legislator Mehta is a leading real estate businessman from Mira Bhayander area and has been a mayor of the Mira Bhayander Municipal Corporation.
However, noticing the media attention, Mehta immediately drove out of the Vidhan Bhawan premises.
But, by the time Narendra Mehta realised that his Lamborghini could boil into a political issue, the Opposition was already questioning him driving the luxury car to the Vidhan Bhavan.
Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) MLA Jitendra Awhad slammed Narendra Mehta for driving his Lamborghini to the Vidhan Bhavan.
"Everyone knows that Mehta is a leading businessman. We are not against anyone owning a luxury car or any luxury assets. But at a time when the legislature is in session and discussing issues of the common people such show of flamboyance is unwarranted." Awhad said.
Narendra Mehta remained unavailable for comment. But, when the car was in the centre of controversy last time, he had defended his decision to own the luxury car. But, this time Narendra Mehta did not respond to calls and text messages.
