Five people, including Bommasandra Town Municipality President Sarojamma of the Congress, have been arrested for the murder of Srinivas Prasad.
The Hebbagodi Police arrested the five men, a day after BJP councillor Prasad (alias Kithaganahalli Vasu) was hacked to death at Anekal in Bengaluru rural district.
Vinit Singh, Rural Superintendent of Police, BengaluruBJP councillor and Dalit leader Srinivas Prasad, popularly known as Kithaganahalli Vasu, was stabbed with sharp weapons around 5 am.
The accused include 22-year-old Madhu alias Spike, a resident of Singena Agrahara, Manjunath alias Karpoora, an Anekal resident, Murali alias Appu, 20 and Narayanaswamy, both residents of Rampura.
“The prime accused, Gym Manja is still at large. We suspect it to be politically motivated killing but the true motive can be determined only after thorough interrogation,” said Amit Singh, Bengaluru Rural SP.
On 16 October, an RSS worker was hacked to death in Bengaluru, which triggered massive protests by BJP and RSS workers.
Reacting to the incident, RSS Media Coordinator for Karnataka, Rajesh Padmar said the state government should take strong steps to stop such politically-motivated killings. He also demanded an immediate and an impartial probe into it.
The Karnataka government said a probe was on to ascertain whether the attacks were politically motivated, even as it asked the state police to "act without any preconceived notions."
