New Delhi, Dec 19 (ANI): The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Monday strongly condemned the possible ban on the Bhagwad Gita across Russia.
According to media reports, the complaint in Siberian court demands a complete ban on the holiest Hindu scripture across Russia.
Offended over the move, senior BJP leader, Ravi Shankar Prasad said the government must take step against the Russian Government, as the issue is affecting religious sentiments of the nation.
"It is deeply regrettable and condemnable. Gita (Bhagwad Gita) is not only a great epic of India, it is a classical heritage of the world of peace, amity and once own obligations and duties. It is high time, the government of India must take a very tough step with the government of Russia," said Prasad.
"To be very frank, due to this kind of nonsense must not be tolerated. We all respect all the religions and their epics. It doesn't mean that the great sacred text of Gita should be abused in this manner," he added.
Meanwhile, BJP National General Secretary Vinay Katiyar also opposed the ban and urged the Central Government for a diplomatic intervention.
"I believe in the present scenario ban on Gita is a very serious issue and Indian government must take it in a very serious manner and must hold talks with that country to resolve it," said Katiyar.
The move to ban Bhagwad Gita by a Siberian court led to a storm in the Lok Sabha today with several lawmakers denouncing the move and demanding that the government take it up strongly with Russia. (ANI)
