In the midst of intense political rivalry, on Tuesday, BJP National President JP Nadda flagged off the Rath Yatra or Parivartan Yatra from Tarapith in the Birbhum district of West Bengal to show a major display of the power and popularity of the West Bengal saffron party.
Nadda also flagged the rechristened form of the party's rath yatra from the same venue from the second stage of the Parivartan Yatra (journey for a change). Two Yatras, one from Birbhum and the other from the Jhargram district, were flagged off. Ahead of the crucial assembly elections due this year in West Bengal, the BJP has decided to organise five parivartan yatras to improve its polling drive. Union Home Minister Amit Shah is scheduled to flag off the next round of parivartan yatras when he visits the state on Thursday.
