BJP, BSP Workers Clash As Corporator Takes Oath in Urdu
Aligarh, December 13: A scuffle broke out between Bharatiya Janata Party and Bahujan Samaj Party workers as one of the newly elected corporator from the latter took oath in Urdu. The pandemonium broke out when the newly elected Mayor Mohammad Furqan and other corporator were taking oath but the BSP corporator took oath in Urdu.
The incident took place at Aligarh Municipal Corporation on Tuesday.
“Some people objected and raised slogans during ceremony. We received information that a Councillor tried taking oath in Urdu. We’ll probe recording of the ceremony and take action if we find this to be true,” Aligarh District Magistrate Hrishikesh Bhaskar Yashod said.
Yashod confirmed that no religious slogans were raised.
A few days ago, BSP leader Sunita Verma, who was elected mayor of Meerut Municipal Corporation or Nagar Nigam, revoked her predecessor’s order to make the singing of ‘Vande Mataram’ mandatory. She said only national anthem will be sung at the start of every board meeting of Meerut municipal corporation.
