In a shocking move, Pakistan's International Islamic University (IIU) has banned "bed sharing" in girls' hostels. Reportedly, the 37-year-old University has issued a notification in which it stated that any girl found sharing her bed with friends, sisters or sleeping, sitting in one's blanket or bedspread would be fined heavily. The University has seven female hostel blocks for about 2,500 students. IIU stated that the move was to address space management and administrative issues. But in the notification issued, gender specific language has been used, which seems to be the heart of the problem.
