Biker Dies in Delhi After Police Barricade Wire Slits His Throat

A 21-year-old man was killed, early on 8 February, after a wire tied between two barricades cut through his neck in Delhi’s Netaji Subhash place. ANI reported that four constables and a division officer were suspended for their perceived negligence in the case.

According to Hindustan Times, the deceased, identified as Abhishek, worked as a cab driver. His relative Sunil told reporters that Abhishek could not locate the wire as it was dark.

"When he was returning, it was very dark and he couldn’t see the wire tied between the two barricades. He drove through and the wire appears to have cut through his neck."

Sunil alleged that 15 minutes before Abhishek drove through the area, another person had driven through the barricades and had sustained a neck injury.

Abhishek’s mother told ANI that she wanted a probe into the incident as soon as possible.

"There should be an enquiry into the incident. Those responsible must be punished."

According to Hindustan Times, Abhishek lived with his family in Delhi’s Shakurpur JJ Colony and worked as a part-time DJ. Aslam Khan, deputy commissioner of police, told the daily that the body had been sent for autopsy to confirm if the death was caused by a cut or strangulation.

"There is a cut mark around his neck. His autopsy is underway. The autopsy report will confirm whether he died due to strangulation or cutting of his throat."

The police is trying to ascertain if the deceased was trying to park between the barricades, or whether he rode into the wire between the barricades without realising it.
