Basking in the success of The Great Father and Puthan Panam, Mammootty is gearing up for his next.
According to a report in Behindwoods, Mammootty, in an interview to RJ Mathukutty, revealed that he wanted to direct Bhoothakkannadi with superstar Rajinikanth playing the lead character. Though Mammootty had discussed the script with Rajinikanth, the project never took off.
Bhoothakkannadi (1997) was directed by Lohithadas, which had Mammootty playing the protagonist. Lohithadas won the Indira Gandhi Award for Best First Film of a Director at the National Film Awards, while Mammootty won the Filmfare Award for Best Actor.
It must be noted that Rajinikanth and Mammootty have worked together in veteran filmmaker Mani Ratnam's Thalapathi, which is based on the relationship between Karna and Duryodhana in Mahabharata.
Meanwhile, superstar Rajinikanth recently wrapped up the remaining portions of his forthcoming venture 2.0.
Made on a whopping budget of Rs 400 crore, the film also stars Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar, Amy Jackson, Sudhanshu Pandey and Adil Hussain in pivotal roles. Directed by Shankar, 2.0 will hit the screens on Diwali.
Also, Rajinikanth's next with Pa Ranjith will go on the floors by mid-May.
