Bhandara Hospital lapses exposed; no mock drills conducted in last 5 years

Ten infants lost their lives in a fire accident in the Bhandara hospital of Maharashtra. The suspected cause of the incident is said to be an electrical short circuit. CM Uddhav Thackeray ordered an immediate inquiry into the case and asked all the government hospitals to get a fire audit. More negligence and lapses are now coming to the fore. An RTI activist revealed how the hospital lacked basic fire security equipment. It has now been discovered that there had been no mock drills since 2016 and there was no fire alarm or escape route. Further, it has also come to light that each floor had only a fire extinguisher present. The staff has also not been given emergency training.
