A Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) corporator from Bommanahalli, while canvasing for BJPs Bangalore South candidate Tejasvi Surya, was seen removing a green flag from a house terrace in the Bangalore region in a video that surfaced online.
According to a tweet from AltNews co-founder Mohammed Zubair, the corporator, named Mohan Raj was seen removing the religious flag hoisted on a house in the South Bangalore region.

A Deccan Herald report says Mohan had mistaken the flag to be a Pakistan flag and went up to the house terrace to remove it himself. The video shows the man removing the flag amid ‘Bharat Mata ki Jai’ chants.
As the woman in the house approaches the BJP corporator, both are seen having a discussion, with Raj eventually leaving the lady’s house with his men. Reports suggest that he had asked the lady to chant ‘Bharat Mata ki Jai’ as well. The DH report says that he had asked the woman to host a green flag instead of the “Pakistan flag.”
Janata Dal (Secular) spokesperson Tanveer Ahmed, while talking to Times Now called this a shameful act, saying that not every green flag is a Pakistan flag. “These illiterate jokers need to understand what they are doing,” Ahmad was further quoted by the news channel as saying.
" “They are creating communal unrest during the elections. That is exactly what they want to do.”" - Tanvir Ahmed, Spokesperson, JD(S) to Times Now
Taking note of the incident, the Deputy Commissioner of Police, South tweeted back on the video, saying that it has been brought to their attention and assured that action would be taken as per the law.
We have taken note of this video. We have brought it to the attention of Returning officer, South Parliamentary constituency and @dcpsebcb DCP South East Division. Action will be initiated as per law.— Deputy Commissioner of Police--South (@DCPSouthBCP) April 16, 2019
The Union Muslim League’s flag is also a green flag with the image of a crescent moon and a star. Last month, controversy erupted over the same flags being waved at Rahul Gandhi’s rally in Wayanad. That time also, these were claimed to be the Pakistan flags.
