Uttar Pradesh: Minor Gangraped in Mainpuri, Set Ablaze by Accused After Complaining to Police
Bengaluru, December 6: In a shocking incident, a 23-year-old fashion stylist was touched inappropriately by an Ola driver on Sunday. The accused committed the act after locking her inside the car using child lock.
After the incident, the accused driver made several calls the next day threatening the victim of dire consequences if she lodged a complaint against him to the cab service. Ola has reportedly banned the accused.
Ola regretted the incident and issued a statement. It said, “We regret the unfortunate experience the customer had during their ride. We have zero tolerance to such incidents and the driver has been suspended from the platform as an immediate action upon receiving the complaint. We have also urged the customer to lodge a formal complaint with the authorities. Safety of customers is our priority and we will continue to extend our full support to this investigation against the said driver.”
The woman was travelling alone from Indiranagar to BTM Layout in an Ola cab. Rajashekhar Reddy was driving the cab. When the vehicle reached the Intermediate Ring Road the driver stopped the cab and molested her. He even tried to reach to the back seat.
The woman in distress started banging the door hysterically–he let her go after some time. The driver, however, kept on approaching her. To save herself, the woman ran to the Ejipura traffic signal, which was 500 m from the spot.
Ola has been in the spot for failing to provide security to women passengers as many incidents of crime against women have been reported. In June, Delhi Police had arrested a 40-year-old Ola cabbie on charges of misbehaving with an additional sessions judge and making obscene gestures.
