Bengaluru: I-T raids on ex-Karnataka CM SM Krishna's son-in-law

The Income Tax department today raided over 20 locations in Bengaluru, Mumbai, Chennai and Chikmagalur.

Income Tax sleuths today raided over 20 locations in Bengaluru, Mumbai, Chennai and Chikmagalur, including premises of former Karnataka Chief Minister SM Krishna's son-in-law VG Siddhartha. The Coffee Day Square in Bengaluru, the headquarters of Cafe Coffee Day owned VG Siddhartha, was searched.

VG Siddhartha is founder-owner of Cafe Coffee Day chain of coffee houses. Siddhartha founded Amalgamated Bean Coffee Trading Company Limited in 1992 and has been its Chairman of the Board and Managing Director since January 2015.

VG Siddhartha is son-in-law of SM Krishna who served as the External Affairs Minister in the Manmohan Singh-led UPA-1 government.

Krishna, who served as Karnataka CM from 1999 to 2004, joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) earlier this year breaking his nearly 50-year-old association with the Congress.

He has also served as the Maharashtra governor. He had returned to state politics after stepping down as External Affairs Minister in 2012.
