Bengal reports 926 new COVID-19 cases, 21 fresh fatalities

Kolkata, Jan 8 (PTI) West Bengal's COVID-19 tally mounted to 5,59,099 on Friday as 926 more people tested positive for the infection, while 21 fresh fatalities pushed the state's coronavirus death toll to 9,902, a health bulletin said.

As many as 1,136 more people have been cured of the disease, taking the recovery rate among the coronavirus patients in the state to 96.75 per cent, it said.

North 24 Parganas district reported the highest number of new cases at 254, followed by Kolkata (238), the bulletin said.

Kolkata registered the highest number of fresh fatalities at nine, followed by North 24 Parganas district (four), it said.

The state now has 8,245 active cases, while 5,40,952 people have been cured of the disease to date, the bulletin said.

West Bengal has so far tested 73.72 lakh samples for COVID-19, including 36,135 in the last 24 hours, it added. PTI SUS ACD ACD
